OpenAI 執行長 Sam Altman近日在X（前推特）上表示，原先於二月決定取消的o3推理模型發布計畫，即將與 o4-mini一併推出，這項改變跟他們即將推出的 GPT-5有關。Altman表示，「我們將能夠讓 GPT-5 比原本預期更強大。我們也發現，要順利整合所有功能比想像中困難，因此我們希望確保具備足夠運算資源，以應對我們預期前所未有的需求。」

根據先前 OpenAI公開訊息，GPT-5 將是一款統一架構模型，整合包括推理能力在內的多項功能。GPT-5 將提供不同等級的使用方式。一般用戶可以不限次使用「標準智慧等級」，但仍會受到限制，Plus 用戶可以用到更高智慧層級；而 Pro 版用戶則可以享有「最高智慧表現」。
Altman 此前也曾透露，GPT-5將整合「語音、Canvas、深度研究」等功能，成為一款多工具整合的統一系統。「我們首要目標之一，是建立能夠善用所有工具的模型，知道何時該深度思考、何時該快速反應，並在各種任務中都能發揮效能。」

目前，OpenAI 正面臨來自包括中國 DeepSeek等競爭對手的壓力，後者採取開放式策略，將 AI 模型開放給社群實驗甚至商用，相較之下，OpenAI的模式則較為封閉。此外，OpenAI 除了即將推出的 o3、o3 pro、o4-mini 和 GPT-5，還計畫推出自 GPT-2以來首個開放的語言模型，具備推理能力，但仍要經過更多的安全評估後才會發布。
